Description

The decree issued on 22 June 1922 instituted an entrance fee for national museums. It cost one franc to visit the Palace and fifty centimes for the Trianon Palaces. Children under seven accompanied by their parents and students under the supervision of their teachers were admitted free of charge.

Personal story

In this photograph, we can see my grandfather, Robert, posing in front of the Petit Trianon in his Sunday best and his hat. He was 19 and was a hairdresser in Versailles at his brother-in-law’s hair salon. I think he must have been using his camera, a “Vest Pocket”, for the first time that day. It was no doubt a family reunion with his two nieces, 13 and 17 years old, and his fiancée who had come from Normandy.
